Puroshottam Choudhary
Puroshottam Choudhary (1803-1880)[1] was a composer of bhajans (hymns) for Telugu Christians.[2] He was a Baptist, and came from a Telugu-speaking district of Madras Presidency.[3] He was living in Ganjam district when a man visited his village and gave him a Christian tract; he read it several years later. He was the first Telugu Brahmin convert to Christianity to receive baptism.[4] He is described as "the first poet of the Telugu Church". During his life he wrote almost 120 hymns and seven Christian tracts in Telugu.[5]
